Frank August Case Study: 07 French Connection American Whiskey 750ml

The seventh installment of their limited Case Study series, French Connection starts where great American whiskey should: a hand-selected blend of Kentucky Straight Bourbon and Rye Whiskies, mature and structured at the core. From there, Frank August does something no previous Case Study has done — finishing across not one, not two, but three distinct cask types simultaneously. Calvados barrels from the apple orchards of Normandy. Martinique Rhum agricole casks carrying the mineral, grassy soul of French Caribbean sugarcane. And Caribbean Rum barrels rich with molasses and sun-dried tropical fruit.

Each cask pulls the whiskey in a different direction. Together, they arrive somewhere extraordinary.

The nose opens with orchard fruit and warm baking spice — apple tart, ripe pear, a whisper of coconut. The palate is where the real story unfolds: vanilla cream gives way to raw cane sugar, then spiced rum, then a wave of baked tropical fruit that shouldn't work with Kentucky bourbon but absolutely does. The finish is long and layered — brown sugar, cracked pepper, rye spice, and just enough oak to remind you where this whiskey came from.

Bottled at 107.4 Proof (53.7% ABV), French Connection has the backbone to hold every one of those finishing cask layers without losing focus. This isn't a novelty release. It's a genuinely complex whiskey that earns its proof.
