The Last Drop Distillers Unveils Release No. 40: An Extra Añejo Tequila 700mL x 50mL

  • This is The Last Drop’s 40th release, and notably, their first-ever tequila

  • Crafted by Carmen Villarreal of Casa San Matías (Highlands of Jalisco, Mexico), who is now a member of The Last Drop’s “Assembly.” 

  • Made from 100% Blue Weber agave, grown for up to 10 years in the red-clay soils of Jalisco. 

  • Aged in three different casks:

    • Two ex-bourbon barrels (aged ~10 years) 

    • One port pipe (aged ~7 years) 

  • Bottled at 46.3% ABV (92.6 proof). 

  • Very limited: only 435 bottles worldwide. 


Tasting Notes

Appearance:

  • Golden amber color with subtle copper-pink reflections.

Nose:

  • Roasted nuts, spiced oak

  • Waves of tropical pineapple and vanilla

  • Floral notes: orange blossom, jasmine 

Palate:

  • Creamy dulce de leche and cooked agave

  • Plums, dates, and a hint of green jalapeño skin

  • Warming cinnamon and clove, floral sweetness, and toasted oak 

Finish / Conclusion:

  • Balanced finish with spiced oak, dried fruit richness, and a fresh agave note. 

  • The spirit “encapsulates the essence of time and the land,” showing the interplay between oak aging, fruit, and agave.
